Clearbit Migration Guide: Breeze or an Alternative?

Clearbit is now HubSpot Breeze. This Clearbit migration guide covers what changed, who Breeze actually fits, and how non-HubSpot teams switch cleanly.

If Clearbit was part of your enrichment stack, you've already noticed: the product you signed up for no longer exists as a standalone tool. Every Clearbit migration conversation now starts with the same question — do we follow the product into HubSpot, or do we replace it?

This guide walks through what actually happened to Clearbit, what Breeze Intelligence does and doesn't cover, and how to run a clean migration whichever direction you choose. If you want to see how the main options stack up side by side, our enrichment tool comparisons cover the full landscape.

No drama, no doom-posting about a product a lot of us genuinely liked. Just a practical plan.

What Happened to Clearbit?

HubSpot acquired Clearbit in late 2023 and folded it into its platform as Breeze Intelligence. The standalone Clearbit product — its API, integrations, and self-serve plans — was sunset. Clearbit's enrichment now lives exclusively inside HubSpot; former standalone customers must either adopt HubSpot or migrate to another enrichment provider.

That's the whole story in one paragraph. The consequences are where it gets interesting, because they're different depending on which CRM your team runs on.

Is Breeze Intelligence Free Now?

This is the part most migration articles get wrong, because the pricing isn't as simple as "included."

Breeze Intelligence isn't sold on its own — it's bundled inside HubSpot's Marketing Hub Professional or Enterprise plans. There's no discounted "enrichment-only" tier and no way to bolt it onto a cheaper HubSpot seat. If your team already pays for one of those tiers, the enrichment is effectively included at no extra cost. If you don't, getting access means upgrading the whole HubSpot subscription, not adding a small module.

So the honest decision framework isn't really about price alone. It's about where the enrichment can run:

  • Breeze works inside HubSpot, and only on the plans that include it. There is no standalone API, no way to wire it into Clay, Zapier, Make, or n8n, no way to enrich a CSV that never touches HubSpot.
  • If your CRM is Salesforce, Pipedrive, or anything else — or if enrichment is one step in a broader automation workflow — Breeze simply isn't addressed to you, regardless of which HubSpot plan you're on.

That's the fork in the road: HubSpot Marketing Hub Pro/Enterprise teams already have it bundled in, everyone else is weighing an upgrade against an independent tool.

Should You Migrate to Breeze or to a Clearbit Alternative?

A quick self-assessment. Be honest about which column you're in:

Your situation Sensible destination
All-in on HubSpot Marketing Hub Pro/Enterprise, enrichment only needs to fill HubSpot properties Breeze — it's already bundled into your plan
On HubSpot, but you also enrich via Clay, spreadsheets, or an API An independent tool that does both
On Salesforce, Pipedrive, or another CRM An independent Clearbit replacement
Handling mostly European contact data with GDPR obligations An EU-hosted provider, whatever your CRM
No CRM yet — enriching lists and CSVs directly Any tool with strong CSV/API support

Two of those five rows point at Breeze. The other three are why the Clearbit alternatives category exists. An independent enrichment layer plugs into whatever you run today — and keeps working if you switch CRMs next year, which is exactly the flexibility the Clearbit sunset took away.

There's a second, quieter argument for independence: how the data is produced. Clearbit was a database product — records collected, stored, refreshed on a cycle. Any static database contains a share of stale records at any given moment, because people change jobs and companies constantly. Real-time enrichment tools like Enrich-CRM take the other approach: research the person or company on the live web at the moment you ask, so the answer reflects today, not the last refresh. If stale titles and bounced emails were part of your Clearbit frustration, a migration is your chance to fix the root cause, not just swap logos.

Clearbit Migration Checklist: How to Switch Step by Step

Here's the process we see teams run, in order. Budget an afternoon for a small database, a few days for a large one.

1. Inventory what Clearbit was actually doing

List every place Clearbit touched: CRM field mappings, form-shortening on your website, API calls in internal scripts, Zapier or Make scenarios. Most teams find two or three integrations they'd forgotten about. This inventory is your migration scope.

2. Export your enriched data before you lose access

Export contacts and companies with all Clearbit-populated fields to CSV. Even if the values are aging, they're your baseline for comparing match rates later.

3. Map your fields in the new tool

Match your old Clearbit attributes to the new provider's schema. Enrich-CRM covers 250+ company data points and 50+ contact data points, so the usual Clearbit fields — industry, headcount, revenue range, role, seniority — all have a home. Do the mapping deliberately: this is also the moment to drop fields nobody ever used.

4. Test on a sample before committing

Take 50–100 representative records — ideally the ones Clearbit struggled with — and run them through the replacement. Enrich-CRM's free plan includes 100 credits per month with no credit card, which is enough to validate match quality on your data before paying anything. Judge on your records, not the vendor's demo.

5. Re-enrich the full database

Once the sample looks right, run the full re-enrichment via CSV upload or API. Don't just port your old Clearbit values into the new tool — they've been decaying since the sunset. Fresh enrichment now means you start clean.

6. Rebuild the automations

Reconnect the workflows from step 1: native CRM sync, Clay columns, Zapier/Make/n8n steps, or direct REST API calls. If HubSpot is part of your stack, set it up so new records are handled without manual work — here's how to enrich your HubSpot contacts automatically.

7. Decommission and document

Cancel what needs cancelling, remove dead API keys, and write down the new setup. Your future self — or your successor — will need it.

What to Look For in a Clearbit Replacement

Beyond feature checklists, four questions separate a durable choice from a second migration in two years:

  • Does it work outside one CRM? The Clearbit lesson: a tool locked to one platform inherits that platform's roadmap. Look for native CRM integrations plus API, CSV, and workflow-tool access.
  • Fresh data or stored data? Ask whether records come from a periodically refreshed database or from live research at query time. Job-change detection is a good tell — catching moves as they happen requires fresh lookups.
  • Where is the data processed? For European teams this is the compliance question. Enrich-CRM runs entirely on EU servers in Paris, which keeps GDPR reviews short. Many teams switching for compliance reasons follow the same logic we outlined for choosing a GDPR-compliant Apollo alternative — the reasoning transfers directly to the Clearbit case.
  • Is the pricing legible? Clearbit standalone pricing famously required a sales call. Prefer vendors that publish numbers — Enrich-CRM starts at €29/month, and you can see exactly what credits cost before talking to anyone.

Buying-intent signals are worth putting on the checklist too: several Clearbit-era workflows (form shortening, reveal-then-route) were really intent plays, and a replacement that surfaces intent signals lets you rebuild those plays rather than abandon them.

FAQ

Is Clearbit shutting down completely?

The standalone Clearbit product has been sunset — no new self-serve signups, and the technology now ships as HubSpot Breeze Intelligence. The capability lives on, but only inside HubSpot. Anyone using Clearbit outside HubSpot needs a migration plan.

Can I use Breeze Intelligence without HubSpot?

No. Breeze Intelligence is a HubSpot feature, not a standalone product. There's no independent API or integration path into other CRMs or automation tools. If you're not on HubSpot, Breeze isn't an option — that's the main reason the Clearbit migration wave exists.

What's the cheapest way to replace Clearbit?

Start free and validate first. Enrich-CRM's free plan gives you 100 credits per month with no credit card, which covers a real test on your own records. Paid plans start at €29/month. The expensive mistake isn't the subscription — it's migrating twice because you skipped the sample test.

How long does a Clearbit migration take?

For most teams: an afternoon to test, a few days end to end. The enrichment itself is fast — the time goes into field mapping and rebuilding automations. The checklist above front-loads the inventory step precisely so nothing surfaces as a surprise in week three.

Will I lose my historical Clearbit data?

Only if you don't export it. Pull a full CSV of enriched fields while you still have access. Then treat it as a baseline for comparison, not as data to import — re-enriching from scratch gives you current values instead of a copy of an aging database.
